Why does it cost so much?:
There is a LOT of work involved in designing and painting a goalie mask. With design, mask stencil prep, taking off hardware, sanding and priming, several hours are spent before any paint at all is applied to the mask. The cost of the mask is really based on how long it takes to do it. Graphic Design work on a brochure or custom illustration would be charged at $40 per hour, which is roughly in-line with the cost of painting your mask. Even a simple mask can take around 11 hours from start to finish.
How much to just change my mask to a solid color:
A simple solid color change would be $125 (plus shipping) to go from your factory white or black mask to, say, a burgandy mask. Assuming there is no damage to the mask or other work that needs to be done to it.
Think out your idea ahead of time:
Changing a design concept to something completely different after the first sketch has been completed will require an additional $25 (US) fee to be paid before the new sketch can be done. This fee is non-refundable and is *NOT* put towards the final cost of the mask as the first deposit is. Revision of the sketches are not charged. Please have your idea thought out before asking for a sketch. (For example, you ask for a sketch of a mask with a bulldog on it, after seeing the sketch you decide you want to see a sketch of a brick wall with team logo on it instead. I will need the $25 fee for time spent before proceeding with the new sketch)
How do you ship back to me?
I will ship your mask back via UPS Ground with tracking number. Let me know if you wish to pay the difference for UPS Next Day delivery. Also note your return address as I will never authorize for a mask to be left without a signature. You will get an E-mail to let you know it is on the way and what the tracking number is. If you prefer another carrier or want to provide a shipping account number, please let me know.
International Customers:
Customers outside the United States likely will have orders shipped via US Postal Service International. Their customs forms and costs are generally easier and less expensive. CUSTOMERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY AND ALL DUTIES AND CUSTOMS CHARGES.
How long does it take?
I try to get your mask back to you within 4 weeks of the day I receive it. This time may increase or decrease depending on how busy I am and how complex your desgn is. If you have a must-have date, I'll do my best to meet that date.
How do I pay?
Personal check, cashiers check or money order made to Don McClelland Designs. I am currently set up to take credit cards using PAYPAL. My e-mail address (goaltndr@macmasks.com) is the Paypal name you send money to. Balance will be due upon completion BEFORE I ship the mask back to you. If you are sending your mask to me, you can send it with a 50% deposit but the balance due will need to be paid and personal checks cleared before the finished mask will be shipped back to you.
If you are in the Chicago area and wish to pick up your mask and pay in person, I ask that payment be made in cash, cashiers check or money orders only.
I want my background to be a mirror-like chrome, can you do that?
Yes and No. I am pleased to offer some chrome on your mask. Mirror-like chrome is a vinyl applied to the mask and then cleared over like the paint. I can do some small details in chrome like numbers and letters but I cannot cover the whole thing in chrome. I can do some larger things on areas of the mask that are completely flat, like the sides, but if it is a large piece of chrome to go over curves and ridges, it is going to crease and look bad. If you are still unsure if your idea will work, ask me.
Can you paint or chrome my cage for me?
I cannot chrome your cage. I would recommend you buy a replacement chrome cage, take your cage in for chrome plating or have it be electrostatically painted (I do not have the equipment for that). I can paint your cage, but I do not recommend it. I haven't seen a painted cage hold up very well and I wouldn't want you to be disappointed after a few knocks to the mask. I may be able to take the cage in to have it chromed for you. I will just charge you the actual cost plus a small handling fee.
I just bought a new mask and it is white, does that cost extra to remove?
No, I don't consider the factory finish to be an existing paint job.
Can I pay for you to get a helmet and paint it?
No, I think the fit and style of a mask is very personal and should be made by the goalie him/herself. I want you to know that the mask is comfortable to wear BEFORE spending the time and your money on it's paint job.
Can I buy a helmet and have it shipped directly to you?
Sure, just let me know it is on the way and what exactly it is so I can expect it and get the design straight.
Can I drop the mask off and pick it up?
If you are in the Chicagoland area, you can arrange to meet somewhere or come by to drop off and pick up. By appointment only.
Do you have any stock masks for sale or stock designs?
No, I do not keep any stock painted masks for purchase. Eash mask is custom - I do not have any stock designs that would be cheaper than having a new idea painted. It all depends on the designs complexity. If you like something you saw in the Mask Gallery, I can recreate it for you and can change colors at no additional cost.
Are you factory certified?
I am authorized by Pro's Choice goalie masks and Sportmask.
